Project description

The main objective of the project is to accelerate the development and deployment of cultivars suitable for organic farming, meeting consumer expectations, market, environmental and agricultural needs for the coming years in order to contribute to the sustainability of the sector. The species taken into account are perennial fruit species.

For this, several stages will punctuate the project over a period of 4 years:

1st stage / designate in a collective and participatory way typical varieties on the basis of criteria related to robustness and resilience in the face of climatic and biotic (pathogen) constraints.

2nd / Identify and develop innovations to more quickly select varieties suitable for organic farming.

Innovations are of two types: technical (tools, methods) or sociological (interactions between actors, participatory selection, establishment of networks, financing, etc.).

3rd / Use and validate these innovations in the different stages of the selection process: within genetic resources, during the selection of future parents, during the selection of individuals, evaluation of agronomic performance and in production.

The CTIFL will be particularly involved in peaches, apricots, and apples within “case studies”: test areas where the technical and sociological innovations put forward and developed during the project will be validated.
